10 Days Desert Tour From Tanger to Marrakech

Day 1 – Tangier

Upon your arrival at Tangier’s port (Tangier‑Med) or airport, our representative will be waiting to transfer you to your accommodation for a short rest. Later, an official local guide will lead you through the city’s highlights: the historic Kasbah, the former Sultan’s palace (Dar El Makhzen), and, if time permits, the Antiquities Museum and the Museum of Moroccan Art. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 2 – Tangier – Casablanca – Rabat

After breakfast, we set off along the scenic coastal road, passing charming towns such as Larache. Arriving in Rabat, the capital, we pause for lunch at your riad before exploring the Oudayas Kasbah, the iconic Hassan Tower, and the magnificent Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Then we continue to Casablanca to admire the majestic Hassan II Mosque—famous for its towering minaret—before returning to Rabat for the night.

Day 3 – Rabat – Meknes – Fez

The day begins with breakfast in Rabat, then we head inland toward Fez, crossing fertile farmlands dotted with olive groves, cereal crops, and vegetable fields. Our first stop is the ancient Roman site of Volubilis—the southernmost outpost of the Roman Empire. After a guided walk, we proceed to Meknes, built by Sultan Moulay Ismail. Highlights include the monumental Bab Mansour gate, the Moulay Ismail Palace, and the vast Herri Es‑Souani stables and granaries, with their enormous water basin. Following lunch and exploration, we continue to Fez, Morocco’s ancient scientific capital, home to the world’s oldest university (the Karaouine) and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981. Overnight in Fez.

Day 4 – Fez – Full Day Guided Tour

This entire day is dedicated to uncovering Fez’s medieval wonders. With a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll explore the Royal Palace, then step into the old medina—one of the world’s largest living medieval cities. Visit the Karaouine Mosque and Madrassa (founded by Fatima El Fehria in the 9th century), and pay respects at the tomb of Moulay Idriss II, the city’s founder. Lunch is served in a traditional restaurant within the medina. Afternoon stops include the Nejjarine Fountain, the old harem garden, and the Batha Museum. Before returning to your riad, your guide will take you to a panoramic viewpoint for memorable photographs of the city.

Day 5 – Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Erg Chebbi (Merzouga)

Following breakfast, we journey south‑east toward the golden desert of Merzouga. En route, we pass through Ifrane, whose Alpine‑style architecture earns it the nickname “Africa’s Switzerland.” We stop in the surrounding cedar forest to feed the resident Barbary macaques and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Continuing via Midelt—a town famed for its apple orchards and old lead mines—we break for lunch. The road then crosses the Tizi n’Talghamt pass, revealing dramatic mountain scenery that gradually gives way to arid valleys. Arriving in Erfoud, we drive directly to Merzouga, where we check into a desert auberge for the night.

Day 6 – Erg Chebbi – Sahara Desert Exploration

Enjoy a full day in the Merzouga area. After breakfast, we visit Khamlia Village, home to the Gnawa people—descendants of sub‑Saharan slaves who have preserved their musical heritage. You’ll listen to their hypnotic rhythms inside a traditional tent. Nearby, we stop at Lake Dayet Srij, which has recently returned to life and now attracts flocks of flamingos and other bird species. We also call at a cooperative selling Berber handicrafts at fair prices. Return to the hotel for lunch and relaxation. In the late afternoon, mount a camel for a 2‑ to 3‑hour trek into the vast Erg Chebbi dunes. As dusk falls, you have the choice to sleep in a traditional Berber tent under a canopy of stars, around a campfire with local music, or return to the auberge.

Day 7 – Erg Chebbi – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate

Wake early to watch the sunrise paint the sand dunes in shades of gold. After the spectacle, ride back to the auberge for a refreshing shower and a hearty breakfast. We then set off toward Ouarzazate, passing through Rissani—the old capital of the Tafilalt region—and on to the stunning Todra Gorges, a series of limestone canyons near Tinghir. Marvel at the towering cliffs and the lush palm groves that line the river. Continue along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” through the Skoura palm oasis and the Dades Valley, whose rugged scenery is dotted with ancient fortified villages. Arriving in Ouarzazate, we visit the film studios and other cinematic landmarks before dinner and overnight.

Day 8 – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, we leave Ouarzazate and head toward the Valley of Roses, where hectares of roses bloom (especially in May, filling the air with fragrance). Our main stop is the UNESCO‑listed fortified village of Ait Benhaddou—a spectacular kasbah that has served as a backdrop for films like Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and The Mummy. After exploring and lunch, we ascend the winding Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass, stopping at the summit for panoramic views. The descent brings us to Marrakech—known in Berber as “Amour n’Akouch” (Land of God). Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 9 – Marrakech – Guided City Tour

This day is devoted to Marrakech’s treasures. We begin at the Menara Gardens, with its 12th‑century pool and olive groves irrigated by ancient systems. Highlights include the Koutoubia Mosque, the serene Majorelle Gardens, the opulent Bahia Palace, and the Dar Si Said Museum (featuring exquisite jewellery and crafts). You’ll have the option of lunch in the medina, followed by a wander through the colourful souks. As sunset approaches, we ascend a café terrace overlooking the lively Jemaa el‑Fna square. The day ends with a special dinner at your hotel.

Day 10 – Marrakech – Free Day & Departure

Your final day is at leisure. Stroll through the bustling Jemaa el‑Fna square, sip mint tea on a rooftop terrace, browse the traditional markets for souvenirs, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere. In the evening, enjoy the square’s lively entertainment—storytellers, musicians, and snake charmers—before returning to your riad. This concludes our services.

How much time will I spend on the camel?

The camel ride usually lasts from 60 to 90 minutes. It is the ideal length to take in the stunning desert views and arrive at the camp right as the sun begins to set over the dunes.
